Co-Op Process Engineering/Development Group

Johnson Matthey is an international chemical and precious metal company that is a leader in the recovery, refining, processing and fabrication of precious metals. The precious metals refining activity recovers platinum group metals, gold and silver from a variety of materials. Once recovered, these metals can be returned to the customer, sold for the customer, or converted to compounds or products for the customer's manufacturing operations. The chemicals production segment deals with the manufacture of precious metal compounds and catalysts for many diverse industrial applications.
Duties will cover a wide spectrum of disciplines across both areas of our Refining Group and Chemicals Manufacturing Group.
Perform chemical testing for precious metal upgrading, refining and help evaluate potential new feeds for refining. Provide production support, optimize existing processes, oversee routine maintenance and supply inventories. Perform research experiments, pilot scale reactions, and calculations for scale up to plant implementation of final processes. Gather and record experimental data in an organized manner and write reports detailing work performed and results obtained. Monitor and/or direct implementation of process changes or new processes in production. Investigate equipment compatibility, availability and feasibility for new applications.
The student would be expected to work independently after establishing a basic schedule. The candidate should have some chemical laboratory experience and an interest in working in an industrial environment. This position offers exposure to many aspects of the manufacturing environment. It will involve the student in decisions and management responsibilities.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
